Two inter-State drug smugglers held with 150 kg ganja in Kodad

Two men were arrested after EAGLE Force and Kodad Town Police seized 150 kg of ganja being transported in a car near Kakatiya Seva Samithi on Kodad Highway on Saturday.

The arrested persons were identified as Selva Surya, 26, and Raja Gownder Murugan, 42, both from Kollegala in Chamarajanagar district, Karnakata. Police seized 62 packets containing about 150 kg of ganja, valued at ₹75 lakh, along with the car.

Acting on credible information, the joint team intercepted the car during an operation targeting the suspected movement of ganja from Odisha to Karnataka. Preliminary enquiry indicated that the two men procured the consignment from a person identified as Raju of Chitrakonda in Odisha, and were transporting it to Karnataka.

According to investigators, the vehicle was arranged by the intended receivers and the two transporters were reportedly promised ₹20,000 for carrying the consignment.

Investigators identified two alleged receivers, Eshwar Gownder, 40, and Shivappa, both from Hanur in Chamarajanagar. Their roles, along with the source of the ganja and its intended distribution network are being investigated.

The seized ganja, vehicle and the two accused were handed over to Kodad Town Police for further legal action. Police are continuing efforts to trace the other persons suspected to be involved in the inter-State network.
