Minister in-charge of Mysuru district Yathindra Siddaramaiah has emphasised the need for developing digital books, educational videos, online lessons and technology-driven learning resources in Kannada.

Delivering the Rajyothsava Day address after offering floral tributes to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari and inspecting a parade at Oval Grounds in Mysuru on Sunday (November 1, 2026), Mr. Yathindra said students studying in the Kannada medium must be provided with quality study materials, opportunities in science and technology, and the support necessary for competitive examinations.

“In today’s digital age, increasing the usage of Kannada is crucial. Quality information related to science, technology, medicine, law, and administration must be made available in Kannada”, he said.

Youth must undertake new innovations in Kannada and open new avenues for entrepreneurship, research, and creativity. “Everyone must join hands to develop Kannada not merely as a language of emotion, but as a language of knowledge, employment, science, and administration”, he said.

Citing his own example, Mr. Yathindra said he studied medicine and is a doctor, but Kannada remains dear to him.

“My father Siddaramaiah (former Chief Minister), is my inspiration when it comes to speaking Kannada. Not just at home, I speak in Kannada everywhere. Using Kannada gives me a sense of pride and joy. Regardless of our profession or where we are, if we speak and transact in Kannada, the language will grow on its own”, he said.

Today’s youth should utilise modern technology to take Kannada literature, history, and culture to the new generation. They must cultivate the habit of writing, reading, researching, and sharing new ideas in Kannada, while promoting its proper usage on social media.

While speaking in Kannada with children at home, reading Kannada books, and encouraging Kannada literature and arts is the responsibility of every Kannadiga, Mr. Yathindra pointed out that learning other languages also expands our knowledge. “But, there is no need to neglect our mother tongue in the process. Along with loving Kannada, we must cultivate an attitude of respecting other languages”, he advised.

Giving an update on the implementation of the Congress Government’s guarantee schemes in Mysuru district, Mr. Yathindra said a total of 22,29,181 beneficiaries across 6,78,792 ration cards were availing the Anna Bhagya scheme, which provides 10 kg of rice per beneficiary every month through fair price shops.

Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which provides financial assistance of ₹2,000 per month to the woman heads of family, ₹4,352 crore has been disbursed in 33 installments to 6,71,674 beneficiaries in Mysuru district, he said.

Under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides free electricity, 9,23,514 beneficiaries have been availing the benefit as of the end of September 2026, with the government paying ₹1,545.62 crore in subsidies, he said.

Under the Yuva Nidhi scheme, 17,790 beneficiaries in the district have availed benefits at an expenditure of ₹47.72 crore, he added.

Under the Shakti scheme, implemented to provide free travel for women in State transport corporation buses, women have traveled using 52.58 crore free tickets up to the end of September 2026, with the government bearing an expenditure of ₹1,382 crore, he noted.
