Mahadev betting app kingpin Sourabh Chandrakar extradited from Oman to India

Mahadev betting app kingpin Sourabh Chandrakar extradited from Oman to India

The development comes months after Chandrakar, who hails from Chhattisgarh’s Durg, was traced to Oman.

Sourabh Chandrakar, the alleged kingpin in the Rs 6,000-crore Mahadev online betting app case, flanked by CBI officials after being extradited to India from Oman.

Sourabh Chandrakar, one of the promoters of the alleged Mahadev Online Book (MOB) illegal betting syndicate, has been extradited to India from Oman, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesperson said on Sunday (November 1, 2026).

“[The] CBI, in coordination with other Central agencies, has successfully secured the extradition of Sourabh Chandrakar, the promoter of the Mahadev App illegal betting syndicate, from the Sultanate of Oman,” the CBI official said.

The development comes months after Chandrakar, who hails from Chhattisgarh’s Durg, was traced to Oman. Investigating agencies have described him as one of the kingpins of the alleged Mahadev Online Book betting app scam pegged at ₹6,000 crore.

Based on a Red Corner Notice issued against him, the Royal Oman Police located and detained Chandrakar. The CBI and the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) subsequently sent formal extradition proposals to Oman, along with the evidence gathered during the investigation.

The official added that a CBI team specially deputed to Oman escorted Chandrakar back to India and that he would now be produced before the CBI Special Court in Raipur. “The accused will be medically examined and taken to Raipur after obtaining a Transit Remand. He will be produced before CBI Special Judge, Raipur on Monday [November 2],” said the official.

In 2024, cases linked to the alleged Mahadev app scam were handed over to the CBI, while the ED has been probing cases involving money laundering. Investigations have revealed that MOB was among the country’s largest illegal online betting syndicates, operating from outside India.

It offered illegal betting on cricket, football, card games, and other events through a network of franchised “panels” and “branches” spread across India, which enrolled users and collected stakes from them.

The official said that Chandrakar was wanted in two CBI cases in which chargesheets had already been filed and an ED case in which a prosecution complaint has been filed, according to the agency. CBI has filed the chargesheets under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and provisions of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery, and the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act.

The official said that the extradition marked a significant milestone in India’s sustained efforts to bring back fugitives who are accused of running transnational criminal enterprises against Indian citizens from abroad, and to make them face the due process of Indian law, even as the agency credited other agencies and thanked the Oman Government.

“CBI acknowledges with gratitude the cooperation extended by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Royal Oman Police, which reflects the close and friendly relations between the two countries and their shared resolve to combat transnational organized crime,” said the official.
