Apply Science to real life: BARC Scientist

Students must be encouraged to think beyond textbooks, experiment with scientific concepts and apply their knowledge to real-life situations to foster innovation and creativity, said Sharad C. Srivastava, Senior Scientist and Project Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mysuru (RMP).

Mr Srivastava was speaking after inaugurating the Interschool Science Fest 2026 organised by St. Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar, on Saturday. He emphasised the importance of hands-on learning in developing scientific temper and problem-solving abilities among students.

He observed that the ability to think out of the box was increasingly important in a society where people often followed established practices rather than exploring new ideas. He appreciated the school for providing a platform for young minds to showcase their scientific knowledge and creativity, according to press note.

A total of 298 students from 22 schools participated in the event, competing in junior and senior categories in quiz and working model competitions, according to press note.
