Northern Ashanti Mines warns NAIMOS against disconnecting CCTV cameras at Konongo mine

Northern Ashanti Mines Limited Company (NAMLC) has warned the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) against accessing its server room or disconnecting CCTV cameras at its Konongo mining site, threatening legal action against anyone who interferes with the surveillance system. In a letter dated October 31, 2026, and addressed to the Director of Operations of NAIMOS, the company’s lawyers said their client had received information that officers of the Secretariat were seeking access to the server room to disconnect or switch off the CCTV cameras.

The company, through its solicitors, Vint and Aletheia, said attempts by NAIMOS officers to access the server room could compromise the preservation of electronic records and evidence relevant to an ongoing legal dispute over the takeover of its mining concessions.

In a letter dated October 31, 2026, and addressed to the Director of Operations of NAIMOS, the company's lawyers said their client had received information that officers of the Secretariat were seeking access to the server room to disconnect or switch off the CCTV cameras.

The lawyers warned that neither NAIMOS nor any other state agency had the right to interfere with the surveillance equipment installed at the company's mining concessions.

“We would not hesitate to take any legal action necessary against the State, officers of NAIMOS and any other person who engages in such deplorable conduct,” the letter stated.

The company said the CCTV system contained recordings that could be relevant to its legal challenge against the purported revocation of its mining leases and prospecting licences, as well as the takeover of its concessions.

It said an application for an interlocutory injunction against the relevant authorities, including the Minerals Commission and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, was pending before the court.

The lawyers consequently urged NAIMOS and its officers to refrain from accessing the server room, disconnecting the cameras or interfering with the server infrastructure until the court determines the pending application.

“Any further action taken in respect of our client's operations and property must be consistent with these constitutional requirements,” the lawyers said, citing Articles 23 and 296 of the 1992 Constitution, which require public institutions and officials to act fairly, reasonably and in accordance with due process.

The dispute follows an operation by NAIMOS at the company's mining concessions on October 22, 2026, during which, according to the lawyers, officers gave NAMLC personnel 12 hours to leave the premises.

The company also claims that illegal mining activities have continued at the concessions since the takeover.
