The Lagos Waste Management Authority has deployed manpower and operational equipment to support the October edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Lagos State, with interventions in Ikorodu, Ikeja and other locations.

Leading LAWMA’s sanitation team in Ikorodu, the Executive Director, Finance, Mr Kunle Adebiyi, said the deployment reflected the authority’s commitment to supporting statewide initiatives aimed at keeping the environment clean and encouraging responsible waste management, according to a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, the exercise in Ikorodu covered Ladega Street and adjoining streets within Ajina Community, where LAWMA personnel and equipment supported the cleanup operations.

Speaking at the exercise, Adebiyi stressed that LAWMA’s participation across different locations reflected the authority’s “operational support for the statewide initiative and its determination to complement government efforts towards a cleaner environment.”

He urged residents to sustain the gains of the exercise by adopting proper waste disposal practices, keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads, drainage channels and other public spaces.

Adebiyi reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness, urging residents, businesses and community stakeholders to complement government interventions through consistent adherence to proper sanitation practices.

The exercise was attended by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab; and other senior government officials, including Permanent Secretaries, Directors and environmental health officers. Similarly, LAWMA supported the exercise in Ikeja, where the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, led a team to Onilekere, Saidu, Olumo and adjoining streets for the sanitation intervention.
