Student denies charges in Bishop Obinim GH¢1.5m theft case

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was Bishop Obinim, founder of the International Godsway Church, and that the accused was his friend. The prosecution said that on October 13, 2026, the accused visited Bishop Obinim at his Lakeside residence.

A 23-year-old student accused of stealing GH¢1.5 million belonging to Bishop Daniel Obinim has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, to wit, theft.

Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah made her second appearance before an Adenta Circuit Court on Friday.

At her previous appearance, the court admitted her to bail in the sum of GH¢1 million, with two sureties, one to be justified with landed property, but deferred taking her plea.

During their conversation in his room, the complainant left for church, leaving her at the house.

The following morning, at about 0700 hours, Bishop Obinim discovered that his safe had been broken into and GH¢1.5 million stolen.

When confronted, the accused allegedly told him that she had contacted her father’s worker, identified as Owusu, who arranged for two young men to meet her at the bishop’s residence.

She allegedly led the men into the room and showed them the safe, which they broke open before taking the money and leaving.

The prosecution said the accused was arrested on October 16, 2026, at about 1400 hours and escorted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters.

In her caution statement, she allegedly admitted to inviting the two men to the complainant’s residence to break into the safe and steal the money.

The prosecution said investigations were ongoing.
