Ghana defender Marvin Senaya has returned to competitive football after 120 days on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old made his first appearance of the 2026/27 season for AJ Auxerre on Sunday, coming off the bench in their 5-1 defeat to Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

Senaya was introduced in the 63rd minute, playing 27 minutes as he began his return to action.

The defender had been out since sustaining the injury during Ghana’s Round of 32 match against Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 3.

He was forced off after just 13 minutes, bringing his tournament to an early end after featuring in all four of Ghana’s matches.

Senaya subsequently underwent hamstring surgery in Paris before beginning his rehabilitation with Auxerre.

His return will be welcome news for both the French club and the Black Stars as he works towards regaining full fitness.

Ghana will face Somalia in a doubleheader in mid-November in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
