Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, urging members to embark on grassroots mobilisation and peaceful, issue-based campaigns to secure renewed mandates for President Bola Tinubu and other party candidates. The inauguration, held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, brought together party leaders, political stakeholders and campaign coordinators to formally commence preparations for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as Governor Mutfwang, Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo and APC candidates for the National and State Assemblies.

Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the people of Plateau State for their support, noting that while his administration had recorded progress in critical sectors, more work remained to be done. He argued that his government deserved another term to consolidate ongoing development projects and programmes. “There is no government that ends everything.

Every government is a relay. Our duty is not to make others look bad; it is to see how we can collectively make Plateau State look better,” he said. On the security situation in the state, the Governor acknowledged the persistent challenges but assured residents that his administration was pursuing sustained measures to protect lives and property. He disclosed that plans were underway to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons to their communities, while at least 800 trained forest guards would soon be deployed to strengthen security in vulnerable areas.

He also announced plans to inaugurate another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow personnel as part of efforts to improve the state’s security architecture. Addressing the economic challenges facing Nigerians, Mutfwang acknowledged the hardship associated with ongoing economic adjustments but defended the reforms of the Tinubu administration, saying the country needed time to recover from longstanding fiscal and structural challenges.

He highlighted some interventions by his administration to cushion the effects of economic hardship, including the introduction of Tin City Metro buses, the revival of rail services within Jos metropolis, a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions and a 300 per cent increase in student allowances. The Governor further called for unity among APC stakeholders and candidates, stressing that the success of the party would depend largely on effective grassroots mobilisation, particularly at the ward and polling-unit levels.

“The votes are in the polling unit. They are not in Jos. Everybody can only matter in the locality where you come from,” he said. He urged members of the campaign council to demonstrate humility, avoid political bitterness and communicate the policies and programmes of the APC-led governments through constructive engagement with the electorate. Earlier, the Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, Sir Joseph Ari, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the confidence reposed in him and other members, pledging that the campaign would be driven by discipline, teamwork, effective organisation and collective responsibility.

Ari commended the Governor’s Time Is Now policy direction, describing unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence as essential ingredients for sustainable development in Plateau State. He disclosed that the campaign council had received expressions of support from 115 support groups, in addition to solidarity visits and assurances from traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and other organised groups.

The Director-General assured that the campaign would remain factual, issue-based and free from bitterness, while prioritising inclusive mobilisation and constructive communication across the state. He also called on APC members and Plateau residents to turn out en masse on November 14, 2026, to welcome President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other national party leaders during their scheduled visit to the state.

In his remarks, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, described the inauguration as an important step towards building a coordinated campaign structure ahead of the 2027 elections. Bature emphasised the importance of grassroots organisation, loyalty, effective communication and accountability, urging members of the campaign council to remain committed to their responsibilities and strengthen the party’s structures across polling units.

He assured that the party remained open to accommodating more stakeholders as preparations for the elections progressed. In his remarks, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon.
