The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Security Taskforce has cracked down on unauthorised lorry terminals and traders operating opposite the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
A combined team of city guards and military personnel evicted drivers and traders occupying pavements along the frontage of the largest referral hospital in the region.
The activities of the transport operators and petty traders in the area contributed heavily to congestion, impeding accessibility and movement of emergency vehicles to the hospital.
The eviction exercise is part of efforts by the assembly to improve pedestrian and vehicular movement to the hospital and also the central business district of Kumasi.
The Assembly had previously issued several eviction notices to transport operators and traders along the stretch, urging them to relocate voluntarily.
However, the directives were repeatedly ignored, prompting immediate action by the enforcement team.
Following the eviction, the taskforce has mounted warning signs, including “NO PARKING” and “NO STOPPING,” along the stretch to prevent motorists from using the area as a terminal.
To improve accessibility and ensure prompt emergency response at KATH, commercial and private vehicle operators have been advised to drop off passengers at the designated taxi rank in front of the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the Komfo Anokye Polyclinic.
The measure is expected to ease congestion around the hospital and facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles.
