SDRF and other rescue personnel carry mortal remains as teams are deployed at the site to recover the bodies of six people who died in a helicopter crash in Joshimath on October 31, 2026

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture has called a meeting with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation later this month to discuss helicopter crashes, sources said. The panel, headed by Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MP Sanjay Jha, is likely to meet on November 13, sources said.

The development follows a helicopter crash near Joshimath in Uttarakhand on Friday (October 30, 2026) in which all six people on board, including the pilot, were killed.

The panel is also expected to deliberate on the high number of helicopter crashes that were reported from Uttarakhand in 2025, the sources said. Uttarakhand recorded five crashes in less than two months between May and June in 2025.
