Anbumani opposes proposed ₹5 hike in Aavin milk prices

Pointing out that Aavin milk was considerably cheaper than products sold by private dairies, he said a ₹5 increase would amount to a hike of up to 12.5%

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the Tamil Nadu government to reject Aavin’s reported proposal to increase milk prices by ₹5 per litre, stating that it would place an additional burden on poor and middle-class families.

In a statement, he said the proposed hike followed a recent ₹6 per litre increase in the procurement price of milk supplied to Aavin, which was expected to widen the cooperative’s losses. Acknowledging that Aavin incurred a loss of ₹89.80 crore in 2025-26, he said increasing retail prices was not the only way to address its financial difficulties.

Pointing out that Aavin milk was considerably cheaper than products sold by private dairies, he said a ₹5 increase would amount to a hike of up to 12.5%. He called for addressing administrative inefficiencies and corruption in Aavin’s management and providing government subsidies to compensate for losses incurred in supplying milk at affordable prices.
