Nasarawa SDP governorship candidate gifts 163 women leaders cars, cash, equipment

Former Inspector-General of Police Muhammad Abubakar Adamu, the SDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, has distributed vehicles, cash and household equipment to his party’s women leaders across the state.
Muhammad Adamu, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, has distributed vehicles, cash and household equipment to women leaders across the state as he prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
Mr Adamu, former Inspector-General of Police, said the empowerment programme, held on 31 October, covered women leaders across the 13 local government areas and 147 electoral wards in the state.
In a statement announcing the exercise, his campaign said the beneficiaries received cars, refrigerators, grinding machines, generators, solar-powered fans and cash support.
Mr Adamu also confirmed the distribution in a post on his official Facebook page.
“The programme featured the distribution of vehicles, generators, refrigerators, grinding machines, solar-powered fans and cash support to women leaders,” he wrote.
He said the initiative reflected his commitment to promoting women’s economic empowerment and strengthening grassroots participation.
According to the campaign statement, each of the 13 local government women leaders received a Sharon car, a solar-powered fan and N200,000.
The three zonal women leaders also received cars and solar-powered fans. The statement said they were allocated N600,000 each, but later said each received N200,000.
The 147 ward women leaders received a refrigerator, grinding machine, generator, solar-powered table fan and N100,000 each. The campaign allocated a total of N14.7 million in cash to the ward leaders.
The statement described the exercise as an effort to strengthen women’s participation in politics and improve their economic independence.
Mr Adamu is running for governor on the SDP platform in the 2027 general election.
His campaign activities have included engagements with political supporters and interventions in communities across the state.
In October, he mourned Baba Alhaji, his coordinator in Alagye Electoral Ward, Doma Local Government Area, who was reportedly abducted and later found dead.
In a condolence message posted on Facebook, the former police chief called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
His latest empowerment programme comes as political parties and their candidates prepare for the 2027 elections.
The women’s empowerment programme followed another intervention by Mr Adamu in Keffi, where he commissioned two solar-powered borehole projects.
In a separate Facebook post, he said the projects were located at Angwan Lambu Phase II and the High Court area of Keffi.
He said the boreholes were sponsored by his wife, Rukayya Adamu, and were intended to address water needs among students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and residents of surrounding communities.
Mr Adamu described the projects as practical interventions aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
The SDP candidate has presented the empowerment programme and the borehole projects as part of his efforts to support communities and strengthen grassroots participation ahead of the 2027 election.
