Ghanaian swimmer Jada Yankey has set a new personal best in the women's 100m freestyle at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, with a time of 1:02.15.

Competing in Heat 5, Jada finished second, improving on her previous best of 1:02.96.

Although the performance marked a personal milestone for the youngster, her time was not enough to secure progression to the next stage of the competition.

Yankey will have further opportunities to represent Ghana in the pool, with the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke still ahead of her at the Games.

Elsewhere, compatriot Tamba Akin Boamah did not start his men's 200m breaststroke Heat 2 contest.

Boamah was listed in Lane 1 but recorded a Did Not Start (DNS) result.

The Ghanaian still has three events remaining on his programme: the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke.

With several races still to come, both swimmers will be looking to make the most of their remaining opportunities as Ghana continues its campaign at the Youth Olympic Games.
