Port Adelaide AFL club has described the death of former forward Daniel Stewart at the age of 37 as 'devastating'.

Stewart, who played four seasons for the Power between 2010 and 2013, died suddenly on Friday.

The club extended its condolences to Stewart's family and said it would offer support to all the teammates, coaches and staff who had "shared the journey with him here at Alberton".

The Port Adelaide AFL club has said it will honour Daniel Stewart at the first home game of 2027 after the former Power forward's death at the age of 37.

Stewart, who played 36 games and kicked 31 goals for Port Adelaide between 2010 and 2013, died suddenly yesterday.

The tall key forward was drafted by the Power in the 2009 rookie draft and promoted to the senior list at the end of that season.

Originally from Victoria, Stewart was recruited from SANFL team North Adelaide after playing for the Eastern Ranges and AFL Queensland club Labrador.

His best AFL return came in the final round of 2010 at Docklands against Richmond, where Stewart kicked four goals in a 10-point win for the Power.

"On behalf of everyone at the Port Adelaide Football Club, I extend our deepest condolences to Daniel's family including his mum Donna, dad Byron, wife Laura, his two sons Bernie and Lando and his brother Leigh," Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson said in a statement.

"We also extend our thoughts to his friends, including his close friend and former teammate Matt Thomas, and to all those at North Adelaide and Labrador who knew him.

"Daniel was part of the Port Adelaide football family, and he always will be. A sudden passing like this is devastating and our thoughts are with everyone who loved him, and with the teammates, coaches and staff who shared the journey with him here at Alberton.

"The club will provide support to those affected by Daniel's passing, including his former teammates and the people who worked alongside him."

The club stated it would honour Stewart by wearing black armbands at their first home game at Adelaide Oval next season.
