Five fishermen from Odarevu village in Chirala mandal of Bapatla district were rescued by the Marine Police and Revenue department officials in a coordinated search operation near Adani Krishnapatnam Port in SPSR Nellore district on Tuesday.
Speaking to The Hindu, a local fisherman, V. Shivaramayya said, “After Cyclone Arnab, a fishing boat — registered as IND AP P1 MO 3025 0001 and owned by Pikki Appalaraju — had set out to sea for fishing on October 29, 2026, with five fishermen on board. They were unaware of Cyclone Murasu and went deep into the sea. Due to sudden rain and high-speed wind, their boat capsized, leaving them stranded and struggling for their lives. Fortunately, the Marine Police found them and brought them to shore safely.”
Following instructions from District Collector Himanshu Shukla, the Marine Police and Revenue department officials coordinated a search and rescue operation, successfully rescuing all five individuals.
The five fishermen were identified as Garikana Kodanda (30), Marada Jaganadham (40), Yeripili Ramana (50), Sorada Polaraju (30), and G. Appa Rao (60). They were initially brought to the Krishnapatnam Port. Under the supervision of the Marine Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and in coordination with Revenue department officials, they were shifted to CVR Hospital located within the port premises.
