The BJP and its student wing ABVP on Tuesday (November 3, 2026) took out separate marches in Jharkhand, accusing the Congress and opposition parties of misleading people over democracy and the SIR of electoral rolls.

In Giridih, hundreds of BJP leaders and workers participated in a 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' march led by state BJP president Aditya Sahu.

The march began at Jhanda Maidan and covered around 300 metres before culminating at Tower Chowk.

Senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi and former state BJP president Ravindra Rai, also participated.

"Congress is working to strengthen foreign forces in the country. People have seen Congress rule for over 60 years and the 12 years of the Modi government. The government has reached out to needy people and provided them benefits under several welfare schemes," Mr. Sahu said.

He alleged that people had lost faith in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his statements.

Mr. Marandi alleged that the Congress and the INDIA bloc had been trying to mislead people since the Modi government came to power in 2014.

"The Congress and INDIA bloc have been attempting to mislead people ever since the Modi government came to power in 2014. Earlier, they alleged irregularities in EVMs and now in SIR. No eligible voters were removed from the electoral rolls. The names of Bangladeshi infiltrators were struck off. So, in the name of the 'Save Vote' campaign, they want to protect the voting rights of Bangladeshi infiltrators," he said.

The former Chief Minister said the BJP had launched the 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' campaign across the country to counter what he described as the Congress's "false narrative".

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also took out a march in Ranchi, asserting that political disagreements should be addressed through constitutional means rather than street protests.

The march commenced from Bapu Vatika and culminated at Albert Ekka Chowk in state capital Ranchi.

"In a democracy, a change of power happens through the ballot, not through mobocracy. Governments are formed and changed through people's votes, not by showing strength on the streets. The anarchic politics of ‘regime change’ in India, inspired by political developments in Bangladesh and Nepal, is not acceptable," an ABVP leader said.

"Why do leaders of left forces and Congress start worrying about democracy only when the process of making the voter list transparent and organised begins? If they have found any irregularities in the process, they should present their point with facts and evidence through constitutional means rather than creating confusion among the public," Vaibhav Meena, former joint secretary of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union, said.

He further said that every eligible citizen's vote must remain secure and transparency in the voter list is also essential.

Central working committee Member Disha Ditya alleged, "The Congress has created an atmosphere of confusion and negativity among citizens of this country regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which is very unfortunate."

"The purification of the voter list is a democratic process. Its aim is to ensure every eligible citizen's name is included in the voter list and to remove ineligible and fake entries," Ms. Ditya alleged.

"Through this march, students made it clear that they will channel their energy into nation-building and strengthening the country's cultural heritage, said Prakash Tuti, ABVP's state secretary.

Trump cites immigration, Iran, tariffs in election day pitch

US President Donald Trump defended his record Tuesday in a final TV phone-in pitch to voters on the morning of midterm elections, saying he had rebuilt the country through his immigration crackdown, war on Iran and tariff policy. In his second term, Trump has dramatically cut the number of migrants crossing the US border from Mexico and launched a war on Iran that has caused gas prices to soar for Americans.
