The Akwamu Royal Family of Nchiraa in the Bono Region has appealed to the President, John Dramani Mahama, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intervene in a fatal shooting incident that allegedly claimed the life of a six-year-old boy during the town’s Fofie Yam Festival.

The deceased, Agyei Agyapong Gethro, was buried on Friday, October 23, 2026, following the incident on October 3, 2026.

At a press conference, the acting head of the Akwamu Royal Family, Opanin Paul Kwabena Baffoe, called for a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure that anyone found culpable was dealt with in accordance with the law.

The family also appealed to the Bono Regional Minister, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Wenchi Divisional Police Command to intervene and provide answers to the bereaved family and the people of Nchiraa.

It said it wanted the authorities to clarify what led to the shooting, identify those involved and explain the progress of police investigations.

The family expressed concern about recurring misunderstandings and gunfire during celebrations of the Fofie Yam Festival, questioning why such incidents continued to occur during an occasion that should bring the community together.

It called for calm while urging the security agencies to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.

The Assembly Member for the Dwomoo/Nteema Electoral Area, George Nketia, also appealed to the youth of Nchiraa to remain calm and allow the police to investigate the incident.

He said those found to have been involved would be arrested, echoing the royal family’s call for accountability.

Mr Nketia further cautioned the youth against carrying guns to public gatherings and other community events, warning against conduct that could lead to violence and loss of life.
