A man and woman have died after their car was struck by two B-double trucks on the Newell Highway at Eumungerie, north of Dubbo.

Two people have died after the sedan they were travelling in collided with a B-double truck, then was struck by a second one, on the Newell Highway north of Dubbo.

The highway is expected to be closed in both directions between Eumungerie and Gilgandra for some time.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Two people have died and the Newell Highway is closed in both directions after a crash involving a car and two B-double trucks north of Dubbo.

Police said emergency services were called to the highway at Eumungerie, 35 kilometres north of Dubbo, about 10pm yesterday.

They found a northbound sedan had collided with a B-double travelling south, before a second B-double travelling north struck the car.

A man and woman travelling in the sedan died at the scene.

Both truck drivers escaped injury and were taken to Dubbo hospital for mandatory testing.

The highway is expected to remain closed in both directions between Gilgandra and Eumungerie for some time as police investigate the crash.

Transport for NSW is advising northbound motorists to use Collie Road, Trangie-Collie Road and the Oxley Highway.

Southbound motorists are being diverted via Hargraves Lane, the Oxley Highway, Trangie-Collie Road and Collie Road.

The diversions are suitable for B-double trucks up to 26 metres long and are expected to add about an hour to travel times.

Police have not established the identities of those involved, and investigations into the circumstances of the crash continue.
