Breaking: Assault on One Nation volunteer not being treated as politically motivated

Victoria Police has issued a fresh statement regarding the assault of a One Nation volunteer to clarify detectives are not treating the incident as politically motivated.

The assault of a One Nation volunteer on Victoria's Surf Coast is not being treated by police as politically motivated.

"Detectives are not treating the incident as politically motivated," a Victoria Police statement said today.

News of the assault emerged yesterday, with One Nation leaders alleging the attack was because the 60-year-old man had the party's signs displayed on his property.

Police today clarified the victim had been assaulted with "a blunt weapon", not a baseball bat as previously reported.

A 14-year-old boy and a 37-year-old man were taken into custody after the incident, with the man being charged with intentionally causing injury and other assault-related offences.

The 14-year-old was issued with a caution.

One Nation has been contacted for comment.

Federal One Nation leader Pauline Hanson yesterday visited the victim of the attack at University Hospital in Geelong.

She said the man had been knocked unconscious and suffered a brain bleed.

An online fundraiser promoted by One Nation on its social media channels has raised more than $250,000 for the victim.

Victorian One Nation leader Warren Pickering, Premier Ben Carroll and Liberal leader Jess Wilson yesterday expressed shock and concern over the incident.
