Telstra customers flooded with 'confusing' missed call notifications

Telstra customers have reported their SMS inboxes flooded with messages about missed calls from contacts who had not attempted to call them.

Telstra customers have reported their SMS inboxes flooded with messages about missed calls from contacts which had not attempted to call them.

It comes as the DownDetector website shows a spike in reported issues with the telecommunications operator today.

In a statement to the ABC, a Telstra spokesperson said the company was aware of the situation and it had since been resolved.

The spokesperson attributed it to an issue with Telstra's MessageBank service and apologised for customer confusion.

"We experienced an issue with our MessageBank service earlier today, which has now been fixed," they said.

"You might notice a number of delayed missed call and voicemail notifications arriving all at once.

"We're sorry for how confusing this must be."

It comes after a major, nationwide Telstra outage earlier this year impacted Australians' ability to reach Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.

Hundreds of Triple Zero calls were unable to connect during the outage on July 8 as about 45 per cent of all calls and data connections on the network were affected.

The Telstra spokesperson said there was no impact to Triple Zero calls, voice calls or mobile data during today's MessageBank issue.

Traffictech system will only operate on roads with speed limit notifications – NRSA

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) says the Traffictech system will, for now, only be deployed on roads where speed limits are clearly displayed, to avoid penalising motorists for the failure of authorities to provide the necessary road infrastructure. Mr Amaliba cited Boundary Road towards Mahama Road in Accra as an example of an area where the cameras would be used because speed limit signs were already in place.
