Global Media Alliance and Japan Motors support Ghana Blind Union with 60 white canes

Global Media Alliance (GMA) and Japan Motors have donated 60 white canes to the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) to support the welfare and mobility of persons living with visual impairment. Over the years, the Corporate Run, organised by Global Media Alliance in partnership with Japan Motors, has evolved beyond a corporate fitness event into a platform that combines wellness with social impact.

Global Media Alliance (GMA) and Japan Motors have donated 60 white canes to the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) to support the welfare and mobility of persons living with visual impairment.

The initiative addresses accessibility challenges and empowers GBU members to navigate their daily environments with greater confidence and autonomy. The event commemorated International White Cane Day.

The 2026 Corporate Run made the donation possible, earmarking 25% of all participant registration proceeds to support visually impaired persons.

Global Media Alliance Chief Executive Officer Ernest Boateng expressed excitement about the initiative, highlighting the company’s long-standing commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity for all.

“As members of Run Ghana, we have always supported the Ghana Blind Union, and we are very happy to continue this relationship. Inclusion is part of who we are as a company; we were among the first in Africa to introduce a blind news reader.

"My team and I are passionate about running, and through the Corporate Run we want to extend that fun and privilege to persons with disabilities, including the visually impaired. Seeing the proceeds of the run go directly to members of the GBU is what makes it all worthwhile,” he said.

Lakeside Estate Executive Director Salah Kweku Kalmoni was elated by the initiative, describing the donation as a show of solidarity with the union and its members.

“It gives me great joy to be part of this support for the Ghana Blind Union. These white canes show solidarity with the union, and our relationship keeps growing stronger every year.

"I can assure you that the GBU will always be dear to Japan Motors and Global Media Alliance, and we will keep running so that more people can move with confidence and independence,” he said.

Receiving the canes on behalf of the union, Ghana Blind Union Executive Director Dr Peter Obeng-Asamoah expressed appreciation for the partnership's consistency and its commitment to including the less privileged.

“We are very excited to be associated with Global Media Alliance and Japan Motors. This tradition has been consistent, and they always think about including the less privileged in these social activities.

"We stand firmly for inclusion and equal opportunity, and we are proud to see that Japan Motors and Global Media Alliance truly recognise and champion this vision,” he said.

Over the years, the Corporate Run, organised by Global Media Alliance in partnership with Japan Motors, has evolved beyond a corporate fitness event into a platform that combines wellness with social impact.

The white cane donation continued that tradition, showing how corporate partnerships can create lasting change and champion independence and equal opportunity for all.
