14 second-year MBBS students at GMC Kamareddy suspended for ragging juniors

Fourteen second-year MBBS students of the Government Medical College (GMC), Kamareddy, have been suspended following a ragging complaint lodged with the National Medical Commission (NMC).

According to college principal Dr. B. Valya, the college received a complaint forwarded by the NMC based on a representation from freshers. Explaining the circumstances surrounding the incident, he said freshers and final-year students were accommodated in a common hostel. The second-year students, who were not residing in the college hostel, had entered an unauthorised area of the hostel and were caught on the college campus.

A student offered a different account of the incident, claiming that the complaint stemmed from seniors expecting juniors to greet them frequently with ‘good morning’ wishes. Following the complaint, the college’s anti-ragging committee conducted an inquiry and initiated disciplinary action against the students involved.

Four students have been suspended for six months, while 10 others have been given a four-month suspension. The college is also preparing to submit an action-taken report to the NMC, Dr Valya added.
