Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) urged students to nurture their individuality, stay focused and have conviction in what they wanted to achieve in life.

“Be strong and steadfast. If you have conviction and confidence, success is assured,” said Mr. Vijay while felicitating toppers of Classes X and XII from 30 Assembly constituencies in Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts at a function organised by the party at Thiruvanmiyur in Chennai.

Speaking at the event, he urged students to have mutual respect and not to indulge in bribery and corruption. He also urged them to stay away from drugs. “Do not become addicted to anything wrong. When you conduct yourselves that way, the people around you, including your friends, will think twice before indulging in such wrongdoing. Gradually, this will develop into a habit of not becoming addicted to anything wrong,” he said.

He told the students he was attending the felicitation event not in his capacity as the Chief Minister but as their elder brother. “I entered politics for you. You might think that I have come here to talk politics or to prepare for 2029 [elections]. I have not come here to talk politics or seek votes. For now, you do not need to worry about politics. Study well and achieve great heights. Live a life that you love. Only after that, think about our society,” he said.

“The moment people realise that someone has an individuality and stands apart, many of them do not like it. They will try to find ways to disturb that individuality and put obstacles in that person’s path. Do not worry about the obstacles. Whenever you face obstacles, remember that it means they have already realised that you are going to succeed and made up their minds,” he said, urging students to overcome discouragement.
