Remarks on Ningo-Prampram military operation were not an attack on GAF – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has met the Defence Minister, the Chief of Defence Staff and the three Service Commanders to discuss a military operation in his constituency that triggered public controversy. “I look forward to working with him and the Military High Command to ensure that the rights of the people of Ningo-Prampram are protected, and that the integrity and proud image of our Ghana Armed Forces are upheld,” he said.

The incident occurred last Tuesday when soldiers, allegedly led by Lieutenant Albert Goh, entered Ningo-Prampram and seized trucks belonging to residents at a sand-winning site.

Some of the affected drivers alleged that they were assaulted and prevented from working.

Following the incident, Mr George called for the dismissal of the officer allegedly involved, describing the conduct as “akin to armed robbery”.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Mr George said the military high command had raised concerns about portions of a video in which he addressed his constituents following last Tuesday's incident.

The operation involved the seizure of trucks belonging to tipper truck drivers, with some residents also alleging that they were brutalised by soldiers.

Mr George described the meeting as frank and cordial, saying he had clarified that his remarks were not intended as an attack on the Ghana Armed Forces.

“I assured the High Command that my remarks were never intended as an attack on the Ghana Armed Forces, an institution I hold in the highest regard, as I stated in that same address,” he said.

He added that he understood how some of his comments had been received within the military and had agreed to work more closely with the Defence Minister in handling similar situations in the future.

“My concern was, and remains, the conduct of the personnel involved in the incident and the harm my constituents suffered,” he stated.

The Ningo-Prampram MP maintained that he had a responsibility to raise concerns on behalf of his constituents.

“As Member of Parliament, I have a duty to speak up for the people who elected me, and I will always do so,” he said.

Mr George welcomed the Chief of Defence Staff's commitment to initiate an investigation into the incident, expressing confidence that it would be thorough and that its findings would be made public.

The minister also thanked the Defence Minister for intervening in the matter and expressed readiness to work with the military leadership to address the concerns raised.

“I look forward to working with him and the Military High Command to ensure that the rights of the people of Ningo-Prampram are protected, and that the integrity and proud image of our Ghana Armed Forces are upheld,” he said.

He urged residents of the constituency to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation.
