Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York has visited the family of 24-year-old Ghanaian caregiver Joseph Owusu, who was reportedly killed in the Bronx. Joseph Owusu’s death comes days after the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian Javits Frimpong in the Bronx on October 29, 2026.

Ghana's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York has visited the family of 24-year-old Ghanaian caregiver Joseph Owusu, who was reportedly killed in the Bronx.

Joseph Owusu's death comes days after the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian Javits Frimpong in the Bronx on October 29, 2026.

The two deaths have raised concern among Ghanaians in New York and relatives in Ghana, with calls for investigations and accountability.

The visit, led by Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsel Malor and Consul-General Anthony El-Adas, was undertaken on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who joined by phone to express his condolences.

According to a statement issued by Ghana's Permanent Mission to the UN on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the minister expressed shock and sadness over the death, particularly as it followed the killing of another Ghanaian teenager in the same New York borough.

Mr Ablakwa said the government stood with the bereaved family and would work with relevant US authorities and agencies to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death were investigated.

“I have been shocked and saddened by this tragic news, especially coming on the heels of the horrible news of the killing of 15-year-old Javits, also in the Bronx, New York,” he said.

He assured the family that Ghana would engage the appropriate US authorities as investigations continued.

Joseph Owusu worked as a caregiver, supporting persons with disabilities. He also served as a chorister at his local Methodist church.

His family remembers him as a beloved son and brother, whose death has left relatives and members of his community devastated.

His brother, Kwadwo, called for a thorough and transparent police investigation into the circumstances surrounding Joseph's death and urged that anyone found responsible be brought to justice.

The family has been informed by police that an autopsy is being conducted as investigations into the death continue.

No further details about the circumstances of the incident or the possible cause of death were provided in the statement.
