Two 17-year-old students sexually assaulted at party, two booked under PoCSO

Two 17-year-old girl students were allegedly sexually assaulted after being made to consume alcohol at a party in Balanagar on the night of October 1. Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against two youths in connection with the incident.

The suspects have been identified as Ganesh alias Ghana, 19, and Tarun, 26, who is married. Ganesh was in a relationship with one of the victims and had invited her to the party. She took a friend along with her.

According to Madhura Nagar police Inspector H. Prabhakar, after taking the two students to the venue, the youths allegedly made them consume alcohol before sexually assaulting them. “The students had consumed one beer each. One of the victims later fell unwell and was taken to a hospital, where suspicion arose of a possible sexual assault,” said the officer, adding that when questioned, the students disclosed what had happened. Their statements were subsequently recorded at a Bharosa Centre.

The students were admitted to a hospital in Madhuranagar following the incident. They later approached the Madhuranagar police and lodged a complaint, based on which a case was registered and an investigation taken up.

The case will be transferred to Balanagar police on jurisdictional grounds.
