The Centre for Policy Scrutiny (CPS) has announced plans to award the best-performing Economics student at the University of Ghana to promote academic excellence and encourage outstanding performance among students.

Under the initiative, CPS will, over the next five years, present a brand-new laptop and a cash prize to the best-performing Economics student at the University of Ghana.

The initiative is part of the think tank’s commitment to strengthening relationships between academic institutions and policy research organisations while supporting the development of future researchers, economists, and policy thinkers.

The Principal of the University of Ghana Accra City Campus, Prof. Clement Appah, officially launched the CPS Academic Awards at a ceremony held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

Speaking on behalf of the school, Prof. Appah commended CPS for what he described as a bold step toward promoting academic excellence and challenged other institutions and organisations to emulate the gesture by investing in students and supporting initiatives that improve academic performance.

“CPS has demonstrated a commendable commitment to academic excellence through this initiative. I encourage other institutions to emulate this kind gesture and contribute meaningfully to the development of our students and the advancement of education,” he said.

He assured the policy think tank of the university’s commitment to selecting deserving students for the award.

He also challenged students to make the most of the opportunity by staying focused on their studies and striving for excellence, urging them to distinguish themselves academically and show that hard work earns meaningful recognition and support.CPS

Executive Director Dr Adu Owusu Sarkodie said the initiative reflected the think tank’s commitment to supporting students and nurturing the next generation of researchers, economists and policy thinkers.

“Through this initiative, we want to recognise hard work, encourage academic excellence and support students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their studies. We believe that investing in students today is an investment in the quality of leadership and policy thinking we need for the future,” he said.

He said the organisation recognised the importance of investing in young people and creating incentives that would motivate them to excel academically.

Established in 2025, CPS is a Ghanaian think tank committed to promoting quality public policy research through periodic reviews of policy documents and the generation of new ideas that contribute to national development discourse.
