This is part of the short-tunnel corridor the Bangalore Development Authority is building to decongest the notorious traffic at the Hebbal junction.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will begin work on a four-lane elevated corridor between UAS Staff Quarters and Mehkri Circle on November 6 (Friday).

The construction work is expected to continue for 18 months. This will disrupt traffic movement to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and add to passengers’ travel time.

This is part of the short-tunnel corridor the BDA is building to decongest the notorious traffic at the Hebbal junction. The ₹2,215 crore project involves a cut-and-cover six-lane short tunnel between the Hebbal junction and Veterinary College and an elevated corridor till Mehkri Circle where they will build a rotary flyover. The project has drawn much criticism and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has stayed tree-felling for the project, till it disposes of the petitions.

In view of the construction, the traffic police have prohibited the movement of all goods vehicles, including Light Goods Vehicles, Medium Goods Vehicles and Heavy Goods Vehicles, as well as KSRTC and private buses on Ballari Road.

The restrictions will also apply to vehicles heading towards the KIA and the city through Hebbal. Commuters, including those travelling in emergency vehicles, have been advised to use alternative routes.

Vehicle users travelling towards the KIA from the city should proceed via Old High Grounds Junction – Kalpana Junction – Old Udaya TV Junction – Canteen Road – Railway Station Terminal Road – Nagawara Road, towards the airport. Vehicles heading towards the airport from Yeshwantpur should take a right turn at the BEL Circle via Mathikere Road and proceed towards the airport via Ring Road.

Those travelling from the airport towards the city should take a left or right on to the Outer Ring Road at the Hebbal junction depending on their destinations and proceed.
