Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says Ghana is forging closer ties with international allies to advance Africa’s call for reforms at the United Nations, particularly its demand for permanent representation on the UN Security Council.

He made the remarks following bilateral discussions with Australia's Assistant Secretary for Multilateral Peace, Security and Candidacies, James Buttigieg, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two countries to outline their shared priorities as Australia seeks membership of the UN Security Council and Ghana prepares to assume the chairmanship of the African Union next year.

Mr Ablakwa said, “We are forging closer ties with international allies to advance Africa’s case for UN reforms to ensure Africa is permanently represented on the UN Security Council.”

He said Ghana was also advancing discussions on the reconfiguration of the international financial architecture, artificial intelligence regulation, climate justice, resource sovereignty, reparatory justice and conflict resolution.

The engagements form part of Ghana's broader diplomatic efforts to build international support for reforms in global governance and promote issues of importance to Africa.

Mr Ablakwa expressed confidence that Ghana and Australia would continue to enjoy longstanding friendship and solidarity towards advancing the economies of both countries.
