Absconding rowdy-sheeter held with knife in Hyderabad

The Mangalhat police apprehended a 36-year-old rowdy-sheeter, wanted in multiple criminal cases, and seized a sharp-edged knife and an unregistered motorcycle from him.

The accused was identified as 36-year-old Abed Bin Khaleed alias Abed alias Lalla, a mechanic and resident of Allah Banda. Police said he had been absconding in cases registered at Mangalhat and Asif Nagar police stations and had a non-bailable warrant pending against him in another case.

According to the police, Abed was apprehended on Friday at R.K. Pet Junction based on credible information following surveillance efforts to trace him. A white Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 motorcycle without a registration number and a sharp-edged knife were seized from him.

ACP Kulsumpura V. Tirupathi said that Abed has been involved in more than 35 criminal cases across the three Hyderabad commissionerates since 2005, including cases relating to assault, robbery, extortion, attempt to murder, offences under the Arms Act and narcotics-related offences.

“A rowdy sheet was opened against him at Mangalhat police station in 2008. The sheet is currently being maintained at Meerpet police station following his frequent changes of residence,” said the officer.

The accused has also been detained under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act three times, twice by the Mangalhat police and once by the Shahinayathgunj police, according to the police.

After his apprehension on Friday, police registered a fresh case under the Arms Act in connection with the seizure of the knife and produced him before the court for judicial remand. Further investigation is under way.
