Telangana Police to launch ‘Fit Cop’ health monitoring programme for 90,000 personnel

An app will assess eight health parameters and classify personnel into low, medium and high-risk categories, with medical screenings and counselling planned based on individual needs

The Telangana Police is set to roll out ‘Fit Cop’, a health management programme aimed at monitoring the health of more than 90,000 police personnel across the State, DGP C.V. Anand announced on Friday.

Developed in collaboration with the Helping Hand Foundation and other organisations, the initiative will use a dedicated mobile application to create individual health profiles and identify potential medical risks among personnel. Mr. Anand said police personnel could provide better service to society only when they are in good health, pointing to the demanding nature of police duties and the constant work pressure that often leaves little time for personal health.

The announcement was made at a meeting at the DGP’s office attended by representatives of the foundation and senior police officials. An action plan is being prepared for the implementation of the programme.

The application will have a questionnaire covering eight key health parameters, along with a section for personal health information. More than 90,000 personnel will be able to register using their mobile phone numbers.

The system will collect information on diabetes, blood pressure, body mass index, other health concerns, lifestyle habits, physical activity and tobacco or alcohol consumption. Based on the responses, personnel will be classified into low, medium and high health-risk categories.

Salman, founder of the Helping Hand Foundation, said personnel would receive calls from a dedicated call centre based on their health-risk category. Those requiring assistance would be provided medical screenings, hospital treatment, health advice and counselling.

Mr. Anand said the system would help identify early warning signs of conditions such as kidney-related problems, diabetes and high blood pressure, enabling personnel to take precautionary measures before their health deteriorated.

The programme is intended to improve health awareness and encourage preventive care across all police departments in Telangana. Mr. Anand expressed hope that ‘Fit Cop’ would help safeguard the health and well-being of police personnel across the State.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar, ADG Akun Sabharwal, IGP (P&L) Gajarao Bhupal, Secretary for Safety and Health Security Uday Kumar Reddy (Retd.), T-SPARK SP Rupesh, SP Avinash and representatives of the Helping Hand Foundation and other organisations attended the meeting.
