A tip-off from a member of the public, received through the national security hotline, has led Queensland Police to charge an 18-year-old man with a terrorism offence.

Detectives from the counter-terrorism investigation group will allege the 18-year-old South Gladstone man was making plans for acts of violence.

Police opposed his bail after arresting him yesterday.

He is listed to face Gladstone Magistrates Court today.

The teenager is facing one charge of planning to cause death or grievous bodily harm.

Police say there are no "ongoing direct threats" to the community.

Anyone with any information about this case or other possible threats to the community is urged to contact Queensland Police.
