Telangana government will establish a Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli and eco-friendly tanneries in Karimnagar district to strengthen the State’s leather industry and promote entrepreneurship among Scheduled Caste (SC) youth, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Saturday.

The centre will be developed on 3.5 acres in Gachibowli under a hub-and-spoke model and will provide artisans with support in design, product development and branding to help improve the value and marketability of their products, the Minister said after chairing a review meeting with Telangana Leather Industries Promotion Corporation (TGLIPC) officials.

The government was taking steps to establish eco-friendly tanneries conforming to international standards at Rukmapur in Choppadandi mandal of Karimnagar district. The proposed facilities are expected to generate employment for around 1,000 people, he said.

Steps were being taken to establish flatted factory complexes under the Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP), on the plug-and-play model, at Jammikunta in Huzurabad constituency and Armoor, Mr. Sridhar Babu said.

He directed officials to conduct field inspections and submit a report on the lands previously allotted to LIDCAP and their present status, the Minister’s office said in a release on the meeting.

Industries Department Special Secretary Krishna Aditya, Director Nikhil Chakravarthy, TGLIPC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Prashanth Kumar and Telangana State Leather Industrial Promotion Cooperative Society president Arepalli Rajender attended the meeting.
