IMANI Africa Founding President, Franklin Cudjoe, has been discharged from the hospital following a successful surgery in the United States and says he will spend the next two weeks recovering at his apartment.

In a Facebook update on Friday, October 6, Mr Cudjoe announced his return from the hospital, expressing optimism about the next phase of his treatment.

“Discharged and back in my apartment. Next 2 weeks of healing and then the magic will happen,” he posted.

The update comes a day after he appealed to Ghanaians and other well-wishers to pray for him as he prepared to undergo surgery at RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago.

In that earlier message, he expressed confidence in the medical teams attending to him and thanked those who had helped facilitate his emergency travel and supported his treatment journey.

Mr Cudjoe, who disclosed in January 2026 that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease for eight years, has been sharing updates about his condition and treatment to raise awareness of the neurological disorder.

Calls for better neurological care in Ghana

Ahead of the operation, the IMANI Africa president had also spoken about his desire to use the experience to draw attention to gaps in specialised neurological care in Ghana.

He said that, after his surgery, he planned to host neurosurgeons and neurologists in the country to help advance access to specialist personnel, medical equipment, medicines and treatment.

He also disclosed that a documentary, would chronicle his preparations and journey from Ghana to the United States for the procedure.

Mr Cudjoe had earlier acknowledged the support he received from businessman Ibrahim Mahama and neurologists in Ghana but expressed concern about the limited number of specialists available to manage conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.

His public disclosure of the diagnosis was intended, in part, to encourage greater awareness of the condition and support for people living with it.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement. Although it has no cure, symptoms can be managed through treatment and other interventions.
