Police seek lookout circular against Kochi doctor accused of sexual abuse

The Kochi City police have decided to get a lookout circular issued against a 41-year-old doctor who has been booked for the alleged sexual assault of a woman. The police have intensified the search for Dr. Johnson Varghese, amid suspicions that he may have sexually abused more women.

Police sources said investigators had found visuals on Dr. Johnson’s phone allegedly showing him abusing at least 12 women. The phone was handed over to the police by the complainant, a 50-year-old woman.

“We are trying to get a lookout circular issued against the accused at the earliest to prevent him from leaving the country. The procedures for issuing the circular have been started,” a senior city police officer said.

The Infopark police registered the case against Dr. Varghese on Friday, a day after three people, including two actors, were arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing him. He was booked based on a complaint filed by a relative of one of the accused in the case registered by the doctor.

Police sources said the doctor was accused of abusing the woman after giving her intoxicants.

The Kadavanthra police had on Thursday arrested two film actors and an accomplice for allegedly assaulting and robbing the doctor of valuables worth ₹3.25 lakh after being called to an apartment in Kochi for emergency medical care.

The hospital in Kochi where Dr. Johnson was employed dismissed him from service soon after he was booked for sexual abuse.
