William Frimpong-Bonsu enters Asutifi North NPP parliamentary race

William Frimpong-Bonsu, popularly known as Joe Willie, has declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Asutifi North Constituency of the Ahafo Region, pledging to champion party unity, effective representation and accelerated development. Mr Frimpong-Bonsu argued that despite Asutifi North being represented by the NPP for 24 years between 2000 and 2024, the constituency had not enjoyed the level of recognition, representation and development opportunities its people deserved.

In a statement to party members and residents of the constituency, Mr Frimpong-Bonsu said his decision followed appeals from NPP faithful, consultations with party elders and engagements with other stakeholders who encouraged him to enter the race.

He said his ambition went beyond securing a parliamentary seat, describing it as an opportunity to provide a stronger voice for constituents and help drive meaningful development.

Mr Frimpong-Bonsu argued that despite Asutifi North being represented by the NPP for 24 years between 2000 and 2024, the constituency had not enjoyed the level of recognition, representation and development opportunities its people deserved. He believes a new approach to leadership, built on maturity, decisiveness and effective parliamentary advocacy, is needed to change that situation.

Outlining his experience, the aspirant cited his background in governance, public policy, public sector management, grassroots organisation and communal leadership. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the principles and traditions of the NPP.

If elected as the party’s parliamentary candidate and subsequently given the mandate by constituents, he pledged to promote accessible and principled representation, strengthen internal party cohesion and ensure that all members feel included in decision-making.

His proposed priorities include inclusive economic growth, improved education, accessible healthcare, job creation and the protection of human rights. He said he would also push for a fairer share of national development resources for the constituency.

Describing leadership as a responsibility rooted in service, Mr Frimpong-Bonsu said effective representation required listening to citizens, understanding their challenges and translating their concerns into practical policies, legislation and development initiatives.

He described himself as an indigene of both Kenyasi No. 1 and Kenyasi No. 2, adding that his desire to serve was driven by his commitment to the progress of the constituency and the country.

He further pledged to work with traditional authorities, civil society organisations, the private sector and other stakeholders to address local development challenges, while remaining accessible and accountable to residents.
