The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will begin a nationwide Mass Revenue Mobilisation Exercise on Monday, November 9, to recover outstanding electricity bills from customers. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will begin a nationwide Mass Revenue Mobilisation Exercise on Monday, November 9, to recover outstanding electricity bills from customers.

The exercise will run until Friday, November 27, 2026, and will cover all categories of customers with arrears, including residential, commercial and industrial customers, as well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Communications at ECG, who announced the exercise on behalf of the company, urged customers with unpaid bills to settle them to avoid disconnection and the extra cost of reconnection fees.

According to Dr Ayiku, the exercise is aimed at improving revenue collection and strengthening the financial position of the company.

He said prompt payment of bills supports ECG's operational efficiency and its delivery of electricity services to customers.

Dr Ayiku said special teams will monitor the exercise and will apprehend and prosecute customers who have connected electricity illegally, attempt to interfere with the exercise or reconnect themselves illegally after disconnection.

He warned customers against illegal connections and illegal self-reconnection, which could lead to arrest and prosecution.

Dr Ayiku said customers who are unable to access their bills should visit the nearest ECG office for assistance.

He encouraged customers to use their regular payment channels, particularly the ECG Mobile App.

“Customers who need help should call the ECG Contact Centre on 0302 611611 or reach the Company through its social media handles.”

Mr Boafo’s concerns centred on the revenue-sharing arrangement under which the private investors behind the project are expected to receive 40 per cent of the penalties collected, while the government takes the remaining 60 per cent.

Traffitech must not become government revenue tool at motorists’ expense – Fiifi Boafo

Former Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Fiifi Boafo, has questioned the financial motive behind the introduction of the new automated traffic enforcement system, Traffitech, warning that it must not become a revenue-generating venture for the government rather than a road safety intervention. Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, November 7, Mr Boafo said authorities needed to clarify whether Traffitech was intended to punish traffic offenders, deter motorists from violating road regulations and prevent accidents, or generate revenue for the government.
