Under-construction roof of school auditorium collapses in Kanjiramkulam

An under-construction roof of an auditorium at an aided school near Neyyattinkara collapsed on Saturday morning. As it was not a working day, no students were around. The workers involved in the roofing work also had an escape as they had moved on to another section.

The incident occurred at PKS Higher Secondary School, Kanjiramkulam. The auditorium had a roofing sheet, and work was on to replace it with a concrete roof.

Since the auditorium was large, work on putting up a concrete roof had begun on a portion of it in the morning. However, not much later the roof collapsed.

General Education department officials suspect that supporting beams made of wood collapsed, bringing down the roof.

Authorities will examine whether any defects in the construction led to the collapse.
