Bangalore University to establish placement cells in all affiliated colleges

To provide employment opportunities to its students, Bangalore University plans to establish placement cells in all the undergraduate and postgraduate colleges under its jurisdiction.
Through these cells, the university will conduct placement drives, besides holding offline and online skill training essential for employment.
While the university already has a placement cell that conducts annual placement drives, and has even appointed placement officers in select affiliated colleges, these officers are currently not active. Allegations have surfaced that, as a result, students are not receiving adequate information regarding placements.
“When enrolling in colleges, students and parents place high priority on placements. However, in the current scenario, job availability is limited. Also, students lack accurate information about the jobs that are available. While we conduct placement activities within the university, it is difficult to ensure that students across all our affiliated colleges benefit from them. Therefore, our university will establish placement cells in all 274 government and private colleges under its jurisdiction,” said Sarvamangala, Director, Pre-Examination Coaching Centre & Placement Cell, Bangalore University.
“Every day, we receive various updates regarding placements from government, corporate, and private organisations. We share this information within the group, and the principals and placement officers then relay it to the students,” she said.
“When candidates with the necessary skills are unavailable, these companies provide training before hiring. Many companies come forward to offer skill training, both online and offline. Some companies approach universities to impart skills as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Certain organisations also step forward to provide coaching for competitive examinations, including those conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, Karnataka Public Service Commission, and Staff Selection Commission, Banking, Insurance.”
Additionally, the university facilitates connections between company representatives and college principals. If a company wishes to visit a specific college to conduct placement activities, the university makes arrangements for that as well, Prof. Sarvamangala said.
The university has already conducted two mega placement drives. “The placement concept of Gen Z is unique. We need to tailor our placement activities accordingly,” she said.
Speaking to The Hindu, C. Shivaraju, Vice-Chancellor of the University said that the initiative would strengthen industry academia connections and enhance the employability of our students.
