Ghana has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 edition of the Karting Africa Showrun, with the event scheduled to take place at the Independence Square in Accra next December.

The competition, which will be staged for the fifth time, is expected to attract approximately 60 drivers from 20 countries.

President of the Ghana Motorsport Federation, Kwabena Poku, exclusively confirmed the development to JoySports, describing it as a major opportunity for Ghana to showcase its motorsport potential.

“Ghana has actually gotten the bid and rights to host the Karting Africa series in Ghana next year in December. We’re bringing about 20 countries to Accra to compete at the Independence Square, with about 60 drivers from about 20 countries who will be racing proper racing karts in Accra,” he said.

Ghana’s successful bid comes after the country made its mark on the African motorsport stage at this year’s edition in Benguela, Angola, where a three-driver team made history with its participation.

The outing marked a significant milestone for Ghanaian motorsport, with the team competing against some of the continent’s finest young racing talents and showcasing the country’s growing ambitions in karting.

Hosting the 2027 event is expected to build on that progress, providing further opportunities for young Ghanaian drivers and strengthening efforts to develop motorsport locally.
