The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has inaugurated its 2027 State Campaign Council to coordinate the party’s activities and mobilise support ahead of the general elections.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abakaliki on Saturday, Governor Francis Nwifuru expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, saying his administration’s achievements in infrastructure and human capital development would earn it widespread support at the polls.

The governor claimed that his administration had fulfilled 98 per cent of its 2023 campaign promises within three years, saying it had recorded significant progress across key sectors in line with its People’s Charter of Needs agenda.

“In 2023, we came up with the People’s Charter of Needs agenda. Under this framework, in education, we agreed to upgrade the College of Education to a University of Education and upgrade our infrastructure, these we have done,” Nwifuru said.

He also listed the construction of faculty buildings across state institutions and the procurement of laptops for students, as well as the construction of 43 new primary schools, among the achievements of his administration.

On agriculture, the governor said the farm at the Hatchery had been reactivated, alongside the procurement of tractors, machines and other implements to support mechanised farming.

He also cited improvements in the ease of doing business, the clearance of pension and gratuity arrears, and regular promotions for qualified civil servants as some of the administration’s achievements.

Nwifuru further highlighted efforts to restore peace in previously conflict-prone communities, address electricity supply challenges in Afikpo and other local government areas, establish an ICT University and improve environmental sanitation.

Other areas he listed include investments in youth development, sports, culture and tourism, efforts to address housing deficits and the full reactivation of the Ebonyi State International Airport.

The campaign council has been organised into directorates covering Finance, Security, Advisory, Media, Works and Infrastructure, as well as Youth and Women Mobilisation. It is expected to coordinate grassroots mobilisation across the state’s wards.

Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, urged members of the council to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, unity and commitment.

Emegha also said no Ebonyian should feel morally obligated to contest the governorship against the incumbent, citing equity, fairness and the state’s established rotational arrangement.

The campaign council is headed by former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, Chief Frank Nchita Ogbuewu, with deputy directors drawn from the state’s three senatorial districts.
