Players need rest, says Mourinho after Madrid beat Valencia 3-0. Real Madrid coach José Mourinho criticised La Liga’s fixture scheduling after Real Madrid’s comfortable 3-0 victory away to Valencia on Saturday night.

Real Madrid coach José Mourinho criticised La Liga’s fixture scheduling after Real Madrid’s comfortable 3-0 victory away to Valencia on Saturday night.

Speaking after the match at Mestalla on Saturday , the he focused on the physical demands placed on his squad during a congested week that included three games and multiple journeys in a short space of time.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X on, the Portuguese said, “I hope La Liga does this joke to someone else, not to us again,” Mourinho said.

“Tebas’s La Liga holds the power. I just hope they don’t pull a stunt like this again, the marathon of matches we’ve had this week. The players need rest.”

He added that while rest was urgently required, many of his players must now report for international duty, a matter beyond his control.

Goals from Federico Valverde, Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé secured the three points and kept Real Madrid level on points with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table. The result extended Mourinho’s strong run of form since returning to the club.

The Portuguese coach has repeatedly highlighted the recovery disadvantages created by the current calendar, particularly when compared with rivals who have enjoyed more favourable scheduling.
