President Droupadi Murmu on Friday (October 23, 2026), visited the Maa Danteshwari temple in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, and offered prayers for the prosperity, happiness and well-being of the people across the country, officials said.

She was accompanied by Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

The President was accorded a traditional welcome at the shrine, where she performed rituals, an official statement said.

The Governor and the Chief Minister also prayed to the deity for peace, prosperity and continued progress in the state, it said.

In the statement, Mr. Sai called the President’s visit to the temple a moment of pride for Bastar and the entire State. He said Maa Danteshwari, the presiding deity of Bastar, holds a special place in the faith and cultural life of the region’s people.

Bastar is known across the country and the world for its rich tribal culture, ancient traditions and distinctive values. The President’s visit will bring greater national recognition and respect to the region’s rich cultural heritage, Mr. Sai added.

President Murmu, who arrived in Raipur on Thursday (October 22, 2026), later attended the ‘Muria Darbar’, a traditional event organised as part of the famous Bastar Dussehra festival. At the event, she interacted with priests and tribal community leaders.

She was also scheduled to attend a programme at Lal Bagh ground at Jagdalpur as part of the Bastar Dussehra festival and address a public gathering.
