Kano ACF chair resigns, three-member interim leadership team appointed

The ACF's spokesperson in Kano, Nasiru Ibrahim, said in a statement to PREMIUM TIMES that the interim team comprises Isyaku Tofa, Bala Sani and Rabia Adamu.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Kano State Chapter, has appointed a three-member interim leadership team to steer its affairs alongside the remaining executive committee members after its chairman, Goni Umar, resigned.

The ACF’s spokesperson in Kano, Nasiru Ibrahim, said in a statement to PREMIUM TIMES that the interim team comprises Isyaku Tofa, Bala Sani and Rabia Adamu.

The appointments were announced by Haliru Akilu during a joint meeting of members of the ACF Board of Trustees representing Kano State and the chapter’s executive committee, held on Saturday at the Late Amina Habib ACF Secretariat in Kano.

Mr Akilu, a retired army general, said the three members would manage the chapter’s affairs for the remainder of the current executive committee’s tenure, pending the election of a new chairman.

He explained that the decision was intended to restore understanding, promote reconciliation and strengthen cooperation among members following disagreements that had affected the chapter.

He urged members to set aside their differences and work collectively in the forum’s interest, stressing that the meeting aimed to resolve outstanding issues rather than revive past controversies.

“The spirit that should guide every one of us is the same: consultation before decision, integrity before convenience and service before self,” Mr Akilu said.

He called on members to embrace patience, humility and constructive dialogue, adding that every contribution should help the chapter find lasting solutions to its challenges.

Mr Akilu also acknowledged receipt of Mr Umar’s resignation letter, in which the outgoing chairman cited the demands of his busy schedule.

He expressed appreciation for Mr Umar’s service to the chapter, commending his time, energy and commitment to the forum. He also wished him well in his other responsibilities and hoped he would continue to offer advice and support.

Mr Akilu further commended Assistant Controller-General of Narcotics Abubakar Ahmed for serving as acting chairman for approximately four months during the outgoing chairman’s absence.

He praised Mr Ahmed’s dedication and contributions to the chapter, noting that his service had helped sustain its activities during the period.

In their separate remarks, the three newly appointed interim leaders expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to justify the trust through dedicated service.

Mr Akilu said a united and purposeful ACF Kano Chapter would be better positioned to contribute to the development of Kano State and northern Nigeria, particularly in addressing challenges relating to insecurity, poverty, education, youth empowerment and peaceful coexistence.
