Two plantation workers killed after tree falls on them in Idukki
Two cardamom plantation workers were killed after a tree fell on them at Mankulam in Idukki on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Silliyamma (65) and Veeralakshmi (45), residents of the Sinkkudy tribal settlement near Mankulam.
The victims were engaged in cardamom harvesting work at a plantation in Sinkkudy on Sunday alongside six other workers. Amid heavy rain and strong winds, a huge tree got uprooted and fell on them. The two workers were trapped underneath the fallen tree. Although fellow workers and natives pulled them out and rushed them to a nearby hospital, their lives could not be saved.
The bodies were later shifted to the Adimaly Taluk Hospital for autopsy.
