Woman, two girls drown in pond in Mancherial district

A woman and two girls belonging to separate families of migrant street vendors drowned in a pond at Indaram village in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Manemma, 24, Keertana, 16, and Kavya, 9. All three were relatives and hailed from Khammam.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when one of them accidentally slipped into the pond while washing clothes. The other two reportedly tried to rescue her, but all three drowned. They were apparently unaware of the depth of the water.

Two of the deceased had reportedly arrived from Khammam two days earlier to stay with a relative in a makeshift hut at Indaram and sell household goods in the area to earn a living.

The bodies were retrieved from the pond and shifted to the mortuary at the Government General Hospital in Mancherial for post-mortem examination.

Jaipur police registered a case and launched an investigation.
