Congress legislators accuse BRS of spreading misinformation on power supply
Government Whip Vemula Veeresham and Bhuvanagiri MLA Kumbam Anil Kumar Reddy on Sunday accused the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government of financial irregularities in the execution of the Yadadri thermal power plant and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP).
Addressing the media, Mr. Veeresham criticised former Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy for allegedly making misleading statements to divert attention from the previous government’s failures. He sought explanations for the escalation in the estimated cost of the Yadadri power plant and the agreements for coal imports.
He also accused BRS leaders of spreading misinformation by attributing the possible impact of El Nino and the resulting drought concerns to the Congress government.
Mr. Anil Kumar Reddy said El Nino was affecting weather conditions globally and termed the BRS leaders’ claims about the drought situation baseless. He said farmers were being advised to avoid water-intensive paddy cultivation in view of the possibility of reduced rainfall and water availability.
The MLA said the Pranahita-Chevella project could have delivered greater irrigation benefits had it been taken up near Tummidihatti. He accused the previous government of leaving several irrigation projects incomplete, alleging that they were not pursued because they did not offer opportunities for commissions.
Mr. Anil Kumar Reddy said the Congress government was committed to completing pending irrigation projects, including the Palamuru-Rangareddy scheme. He maintained that the government was working to address the State’s irrigation and power requirements while holding the previous regime accountable for its decisions.
