G. Ramakrishnan alleged that the BJP-led Union government has used SIR to delete around 13.5 crore voters from the electoral rolls in the country

Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member G. Ramakrishnan on Sunday said that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay should introduce and adopt a resolution in the State Legislative Assembly to scrap the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Addressing reporters after participating in a free medical camp for construction workers in Vellore town, Mr. Ramakrishnan alleged that the BJP-led Union government has used SIR to delete around 13.5 crore voters from the electoral rolls in the country. In this regard, except BJP, the entire opposition have united in demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. “On its part, the Tamil Nadu government led by Mr. Vijay should pass a resolution against SIR in the State Assembly and for re-enrolment of voters, who were deleted from the electoral rolls,” he said.

The CPI (M) leader cited the example of Kerala Legislative Assembly, where the ruling Congress and Opposition parties led by the Left Front have unanimously passed a resolution, demanding the scrapping of SIR of electoral rolls.
