A convicted child rapist who sparked a national manhunt over alleged sexual offending involving a child has been extradited to South Australia.
The man, who the ABC cannot name, was arrested in New South Wales in May 2024 following a police appeal for information on his whereabouts.
The man was wanted in South Australia over alleged serious sexual offending against a child under the age of 18.
At the time, SA Police said he was also wanted for alleged offending in various other states, including Victoria and Queensland.
Court documents obtained by the ABC show the man faced a NSW court this morning, when prosecutors requested to have him transferred to South Australia.
"He is to be remanded in the custody at Broken Hill Police station, until and or no later than 4:00pm on Monday 26 October 2026," the document states.
"On this date he is to be taken into the custody of [South Australian Police] … where he will be extradited to the Adelaide City Watchhouse by motor vehicle."
SA Police also released a statement confirming a person had been arrested and was in the process of being extradited from New South Wales.
"Due to operational reasons, no further information is available at this time," the police spokesperson said.
The man was previously sentenced to more than 10 years in prison, after pleading guilty to abducting a 10-year-old girl from her house in Adelaide's north and raping her in 2007.
In 2024, he was sentenced to seven months in jail in NSW for theft and driving offences.
The ABC understands the man left Broken Hill about midday.
